all these mp3 tests!

I've been playing around to see how mp3/podcasting would work... (sorry to anyone following me on twitter for all these strange titled things!)

Seems attaching a file (either from local or remote) gives you the little player and makes the posterous feed a podcast (well what itunes can grab and download). That's fine, but you still end up having to attach mp3 files (that could get big!). That's tests 1 and 3.

So I thought, what about linking to mp3s that are already hosted somewhere.

The tests and results:

#1 & #3 attaching an mp3 either on your own computer (#1) or one that's hosted somewhere already (#3)
Have player in posterous: YES
Works in iTunes with posterous feed: YES
Works in iTunes with feedburner feed: NO

#2 an html type link using real words that's linked to a mp3 hosted somewhere:
Have player in posterous: NO
Works in iTunes with posterous feed: NO
Works in iTunes with feedburner feed: YES

(I thought I could get a player to work using the yahoo media player: http://mediaplayer.yahoo.com/ but it turns out that for security posterous won't let you link to custom js in a theme. I can understand why but it's a bit of a pain! If you know how to, leave a comment!)

#4 a simple link to a mp3 hosted somewhere using the url only:
Have player in posterous: YES
Works in iTunes with posterous feed: NO
Works in iTunes with feedburner feed: NO

hmmm, they really like attachments! But I'd really love to be able to link to an external mp3 (that's on S3 or something) so you don't have to have huge mp3 files as email attachments.

ho hum. still love posterous though!
